Located within minutes of Barrie and an hour from the Big City, we offer warm, clean and comfortable huts, making your ice-fishing experience one to remember. Having our operation at Big Bay Point provides us with the unique ability to access Lake Simcoe’s vast waters, from Barrie to Cook’s Bay. Our 6-man huts are located in Kempenfelt Bay and our 3-man huts are portable, allowing us to offer a wide range of possibilities for your ice-fishing adventure. We offer complete ice fishing packages for small and large groups, while providing you with everything you need to catch those Lake Simcoe trophies…except your licence.

About Us

Big Bay Point Ice Hut Rentals is owned and operated by The Kinnear Family, who has been on Lake Simcoe since the 1940s. Five generations of Kinnears have enjoyed the beauty, serenity and splendor of this unique part of Cottage country, as well as the world-class fishing, golfing, boating and snowmobiling that the area offers. A true all-season destination, Big Bay Point offers visitors a bit of everything from breath-takingly serene sunsets to exciting and intense world-class Lake Whitefish and Lake Trout fishing, as well as great Perch and Crappie action. The Huts

Our growing line of huts is fully equipped for fishing and provides a comfortable and enjoyable experience for anglers of all ages and physical abilities. Currently we offer brand new, well-crafted ice fishing huts that are fully insulated and heated, complete with padded benches that can comfortably handle up to 8 anglers at a time. We also offer portable huts that are heated and can accommodate up to 3 anglers. These huts are also well crafted and warm while providing greater access to off-shore fishing holes and a variety of species and types of angling for the more experienced hard-water enthusiasts. Coming soon we will be fully outfitted state-of-the-art Ice Bungalows that can accommodate up to 8 anglers for all day and all night fishing action.

The Fish

Our large huts are located in the deep waters of Kempenfelt Bay, suited to catching whitefish and trout throughout the season. Lake Simcoe is known for producing Lake Trout in the 40+ lbs range and Whitefish that could set the world record! (Previous World-Record Lake Whitefish at 13lbs). Anglers looking for something different can try their hand at perch and crappie in easily accessible shallow-waters. Here anglers can often “sight-fish”, watching fish below the ice in a feeding frenzy! This is great for the kids and provides hours of fun and excitement.
